Freedonia Predicts Strong future for Synthetics
According to a study be the Freedonia Group, lubricant demand in the United States
will grow 0.9 percent per year for the next five years, reaching 2.745 billion gallons
in 2008. The study predicts a two percent annual growth for general industrial oils and
a 0.2 percent annual growth for automotive motor oils. Freedonia projects demand for
synthetic lubricants to grow six times faster than the overall market, with synthetics
accounting for 10 percent of the overall demand by 2008. More rapid than average growth
is also predicted for high mileage oils and oils marketed specifically for ATV's,
motorcycles, and scooters.
